About
Lisa
Meet Lisa Winters, a passionate advocate for underserved populations with over 30 years of experience in social work. After graduating with a Master’s in Social Work from Hunter College School in 1990, Lisa began her career at Bronx Lebanon Hospital as the Project Director for the PCAP program, which assists low-income women and children while providing support for AIDS patients in the South Bronx.
Driven to serve her patients better, Lisa pursued a law degree and earned her Juris Doctorate from CUNY School of Law in 2000. As a Social Security Disability Advocate at Binder & Binder, she represented clients in their disability appeals at the Federal and Appellate levels. She later directed the outpatient substance abuse treatment program at the Exodus Transitional Community Center in East Harlem.
Lisa is the oldest sibling born to Nelsia and Bob Lehrer, growing up in Riverdale Bronx before moving to Northern Westchester. She acquired a love for horses and became a competitive dressage enthusiast as a young adult.
Throughout her life, Lisa has been involved in numerous community projects and has most recently dedicated her time to animal rescue. In 2017, she formed Little Wanderers, a non-profit to address the suffering of stray and feral cats, focusing on The Bronx. Since its founding, the organization has rescued over 6,000 cats with an annual budget exceeding $400,000 and is run entirely by volunteers.
